Lord Mayor of Birmingham -Councillor Anne Underwood

The Lord Mayor was born in Northfield, Birmingham in 1944 and attended St Lawrence Church of England and Kings Norton Grammar schools.

The Lord Mayor has been spokesman or chairman of many portfolios most recently as Chairman of the Vulnerable Children’s Overview and Scrutiny Committee and has served the Conservative Group as Leader, Group Whip, Treasurer and Secretary. As a member of Sutton’s Business Investment District Board she worked with the local officers of the City Council and the BID management to build a close working relationship that helped to build the BID’s success.

She has always had an interest in supporting young people and has been Governor at Sutton College since 1983 and has been a member of the boards of the College of Food, Tourism and Creative Studies and Hall Green and Handsworth Colleges. She has served as Governor of KE VI Grammar School, Hill West Schools, Bishop Vesey School, Arthur Terry School and more recently she has served as Vice Chairman of Wilson Stuart Special School

The Lord Mayor’s charity work has often been supporting young people whether it has been raising funds for the Whizz Kids Charity that provides specially adapted wheelchairs for children with mobility issues.
